Press Release: Annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Sussex based charity " Computers for Charities" launched it’s appeal this week for support to aid it’s Christmas shoebox appeal for the elderly.

Chairman Simon Rooksby says "The appeal now entering it’s fourth year is not so much about numbers, but more of supporting existing projects both across the UK and Eastern Europe to provide additional encouragement and cheer for disadvantaged and impoverished elderly people"

Simon says "the responses from the recipients and supporters remains a humbling experience when you see the time and thought undertaken to prepare a shoebox or the conditions and circumstances the recipients endure".

In December the Charity will be travelling from the UK to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia to distribute this years collection, whilst also sending 200 shoeboxes to Bulawayo in Zimbabwe as part of the charities container load providing much needed medical supplies, clothing and educational resources for the charities "African schools on Line" educational program.

Shoppers at Hailsham’s Waitrose can further assist the charity as it specifically seeks to raise funds to cover fuel and transport costs by December through the Waitrose Community matters scheme.

This new Waitrose initiative began this month, whereby shoppers are given a token at the checkout which can be given to one of three nominated charities each month providing the opportunity for local charities to benefit by up to £1000.
